5 Hidden Cafes in Mumbai

Beautiful things don't ask for attention

This remark nicely captures some of Mumbai's most unassuming eateries. Restaurants & cafes in Mumbai serve wonderful foods all year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, influenced by flavours from all around India, whether at a luxury rooftop restaurant or a street food corner.

Here’s a list of my favourite food joints in Mumbai with their specialties.

Leaping Windows

The Leaping Windows can be found in Versova's quiet byways. This cafe contains over 2000 comic books and a great environment where we can all relive the stories we grew up reading about and envision ourselves as one of the superheroes. It has a few indoor tables and a couple outside.

Must Try: Cajun chicken burger and Nutella-stuffed pancake.

Cost Per Person: Rs 500 (approximately)

Location: 3 Corner View, Dr. Ashok Chopra Marg, Off Yari Road, Opp. Bianca Towers, Versova, Andheri West, Mumbai.

Café at the NCPA

The all-day cafe, which has a view of the Arabian Sea on one side, changes into a gently illuminated refuge towards dusk. The NCPA cafe promises a pleasantly calm respite from the rush of the city, nestled in the middle of bustling South Mumbai, set against the verdant expanses of the Open Air Plaza and flanked by Amadeus, the NCPA's existing paragon of exquisite dining.

Must Try: The Cheddar naan and Khow Suey

Cost Per Person: : Rs 500 (Approximately)

Location: NCPA, Gate No. 2, Dorabaji Tata Road, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Gostana is a cafe in Bandra that produces healthy and fresh fast cuisine. It is likely the first cafe in India to offer Burgers in Whole Wheat or Multigrain bread alternatives. Their burger patty is steamed rather than fried to preserve its natural flavours, as is the case with most burgers available in other restaurants.

Must Try: Lamb Burger, Ginger Chicken Burger, Gostana Chicken Burger

Cost Per Person: : Rs 400 (Approximately)

Location: Ground Floor, Prabhat Kunj, Near Elbo Room, 24th Road, Khar, Mumbai

Tea Villa

Tea Villa offers a pleasant backdrop for a quick tete-a-tete or lengthy hours of unwinding with refreshing brews, with over 30 varieties of tea to select from. The have some of the most mouthwatering desserts!

Must Try: Crunchy Cream Cold Coffee and Chocolate Loaded Waffles

Cost Per Person: Rs 350 (Approximately)

Location: Pardhy House, Opposite Jain Temple, Vile Parle East.

Wok in the Box

Wok in the Box, an Asian café in Bandra, is designed for health-conscious diners who don't mind a calorie-conscious, interactive spin on popular street food.

Must Try: Mixed Veggie Tofu Wok with Wok’s Fiery and Tang Tang sauce

Cost Per Person: Rs 200 (Approximately)

Location: A 10, Gagangari Apartment, Off Carter Road, Bandra West, Mumbai

With so many options, what are you waiting for? Let the feasting begin!
